Decorative paper, as a veneer material for panel furniture, is increasingly widely used, and its increasingly realistic veneer effect is widely loved. This key raw material in building materials is not only used in furniture but also extensively applied to low-pressure boards and high-pressure boards for cabinets, as well as fireproof boards and flooring. Its designs are diverse, including wood grain, stone grain, abstract, and solid colors, bringing rich visual effects to products. The main function of decorative paper is to provide exquisite patterns while preventing the underlying adhesive from seeping out, serving the dual purpose of coverage and decoration. Classification
Decorative paper, as an important raw material in the building materials industry, can be classified in various ways. According to basis weight, it can be divided into two main categories: thin paper and decorative paper (titanium dioxide paper). Thin paper typically has a basis weight of no more than 30 g/m², while decorative paper (titanium dioxide paper) has a basis weight of at least 40 g/m², with 70–120 g/m² being the mainstream. From a usage perspective, decorative paper can be categorized into polypaper, fancy paper, pre-painted paper, low-pressure melamine-impregnated paper, and high-pressure melamine-impregnated paper. Polypaper belongs to the category of thin paper, with a wood grain print on its surface. It is commonly used for veneer on MDF, HDF, and plywood, but requires finishing after veneer application. Fancy paper is also a thin paper, pre-printed and coated, and is mostly used in applications where abrasion resistance is not a primary concern. Pre-painted paper is a type of decorative paper with a wood grain print and resin impregnation, offering superior abrasion resistance compared to fancy paper. Low-pressure and high-pressure melamine-impregnated paper are used for veneer on particleboard and MDF, as well as in the manufacture of engineered wood flooring; their abrasion resistance depends on the quality of the surface paper.
